Review of Funny People (2009) by Kenneth B — 25 Mar 2014
If epic means stretching a point then this certainly is 'epic'. Apatow has a habit of making people think his film are better than they actually are (Knocked Up being the case in point). Funny People does have a few things going for it.
It is funny. It is satirical. Seth Rogan puts in perhaps a career best performance. Adam Sandler is bearable for the first time since Punch-Drunk Love. Despite all this it is simply too long and once the laughs dry up, the drama just doesn't have enough heft to carry the film through.
