This is a fine example of a film that critics think is great due to some acting and emotional depth. When the audience sees a good rated Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan film they immediately think it will be a great funny film because funny is in the title however Funny People isn't that entirely that funny.
It's depressing for an Adam Sandler film and is easily forgettable compared to other classic Adam Sandler films that are more slapstick in terms of comedy. This is what you would look for if you were wanting to see a Dark Comedy film.
