Review of Funny People (2009) by Steven G — 10 Jun 2014
This movie really bridges the divide between comedy and tragedy-it works as both a Judd Apatow/Adam Sandler movie about juvenile humour and as a serious film about, well, the meaning of life, among other things.
The comedy bits are hilarious, and the way that humour is inserted in the more philosophical portions is completely natural and believable. There's actually things like plot, character development, style, and substance.
It's both a film about comedians and a film about being and becoming a comedian. I really, really like this film.
