Review of Funny Girl (1968) by Jesse L — 04 May 2004
(DVD) (First Viewing, 12th Wyler film).
Aside from a few memorable moments, it's really not that good of a film. But Barbara Striesand- you can't take your eyes off of her. I don't know how close she comes to emulating Fanny Brice, but it's an awe-inspiring performance all the same. As the famous Ziegield Follies singer/comedienne she's forced to express the entire range of emotions, and be funny to boot. It's just a shame the rest of the film never seems to reach the same level.
