Review of Funny Games (1997) by Anthony K — 17 Apr 2008
Excellent direction and performances don't make me like this damn film! The lack of any purpose to the young men's intentions desensitized me to the films violence and horror aspects to come. Thinking about the film later on, there are many many clever things about it - it plays with the audience in so many ways and experiments with some intriguing concepts.
But its not that sort of analysis that makes me watch films... I watch films for characters I care for, or for fun, or to have other emotions drawn out of me. This film failed.
