Review of Funny Games (1997) by Justin B — 06 May 2013
Twisted hostage thriller by the new master of suspense, Haneke. Apart from having made a very effective thriller, Haneke clearly wants to make a statement about cinema, too. I am just not yet sure what that is.
A wild guess: that as a viewer, you are partly guitly for the cruelty in the film, because of the expectations you have of a film (suspense, a "feature length" film). I bet dozens of academic essays can - and will - be written about this.
