Review of Funny Farm (1988) by Kevin R — 26 Dec 2010
Folks don't seem to have a taste for testicles no more.
Andy and Elizabeth Farmer are a New York City couple looking to move to the country. Once they arrive in their new home, they discover the town and its people do not fit the cliché small town Hallmark card image. They try to work through the obstacles but the small town will challenge their marriage and emotional sanity.
"This ain't a bridge, its termites holding hands.".
George Roy Hill, director of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Slap Shot, The Sting, A Little Romance, and The Little Drummer Girl, delivers Funny Farm. The storyline for this picture is a bit predictable but the character presentation and sub plots are interesting. The comedic content is inconsistent and the acting is better than average. The cast includes Chevy Chase, Madolyn Smith Osborne, Mike Starr, and Glenn Plummer.
"You're not knocking him out, you're only beating the piss out of him.".
Funny Farm is a film I have always adored since I was a child when this aired regularly on HBO. As a kid, I always adored Chevy Chase movies. This is a film that is fun for all ages. The comedic content is not laugh out loud funny, but it is entertaining no matter how many times you have viewed this picture. This is a movie I had to add to my DVD collection, similar to Three Amigos, Spies Like Us, The Great Outdoors, and the National Lampoons Chevy Chase Pictures.
"We're duck owners.".
Grade: C+.
