Review of Funny Farm (1988) by Brendan N — 18 Aug 2018
Finally tracked this film down and caught one of the films I had only seen half. This was a very different Chase film and while I enjoyed it, I still think it could have been much better had it stuck to Chase's comedy strengths.
The typical run of the mill comedy story where the guy and girl move to the country of weirdos and fall in love. The film is funny for the first half but they never interact with the town like they should have.
I just expected the weirdness to be dialled up to 11 but they play it serious and for gentle laughs. The filmmakers overstretched here and needed to be more gentle with the overall film or go for craziness.
The film lands in the middle and doesn't really work that well. Chase is good but looks bored, the film never has that laugh out loud moment. Good for a Chase movie but not the classic it could have been.
THis should have been The Groundhogs Day of Chase's career. 18/08/2018.
