Review of Funny Face (1957) by Dennis C — 25 Apr 2008
Fred Astaire is a great dancer, but as a romantic interest to Audrey Hepburn he wasn't really believable. He reminded me more of the very fashionable and sophisticated aging gay man that uses his younger and more beautiful woman to get him into the really nice balls.
Beautiful shots of Paris, I've never been there and now I don't have to. The wedding scene was like a dream. A dream I have never had being very defensive of my sexuality, but a wonderful dream nonetheless that I'm sure many women will embrace and force their potential husband into bankruptcy to fulfill.
There is this older woman who is a great singer, I'm assuming she's Kay Thompson, and disspapointingly I think I can understand why they got a voice double for Hepburn in the other movies. Its not bad its just damn when you hear her and the older woman sing its like watching high school play the NBA.
The dance segments are great though, and they piss on stupid french and modern intellectualism, so that's a plus.
