Review of Funny Face (1957) by Dominique N — 14 Dec 2008
Pretty disappointing, all things considered. sub-par dialogue, flashy camerawork and editing, and not much of a supporting cast. the musical numbers felt really forced and awkward, the dancing was nothing special, nor really was the singing--Fred Astaire just seemed really off his game.
Hepburn was simply radiant, but she had virtually no chemistry with Fred and I felt he almost inhibited her acting. Fred was floating around with Ginger when Audrey was a toddler, anyway...can't say there's much romantic interest to be had from an audience perspective either.
overall a film with too much "style" and "glamour" and not enough real content.
