Review of Funeral Parade of Roses (1969) by Eric R — 06 Aug 2011
This is a fantastically shot movie - the plot was more than a little disturbing. The camera work was intentionally disorienting and it this led to it being rather absorbing although I can't really say I associated with any of the characters.
That said it was somewhat affecting. It couldn't really be recommended as a introduction to Japanese cinema as it is not representative. It is more of its time than of its place. Visually it is very appealing very much like a film installation at a gallery.
