Review of Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) by Chads. — 27 Feb 2006
For "Fun with Dick and Jane" to connect with an audience, the filmmakers should've put the Harpers in a lower tax bracket. There's not enough contrast when you have the moderately rich going up against the filthy rich.
We want to see somebody from the working class, stick it to the man. But "Fun with Dick and Jane" makes fun of those low-level employees that were hurt by the Enron fallout. This is the wrong movie to make fun of people who work at Wal-Mart-like businesses, because that's where some Enron refugees might've ended up at.
It's hard to tell what this film's position is on matters of race and class. We're supposed to root against the mega-corp baddies, and yet the film seems to have a condescending attitude towards the working class.
