Review of Fulltime Killer (2001) by Jesse W — 25 Jul 2008
Johnny To always manages to make interesting and stylistically intriguing films even if some of his earlier are some what lacking. Despite an annoying role from Andy Lau as the assassin that acts like a celebrity (making fun of himself as a real life pop star?) and a shameless sense of self awareness, there are some exciting if noticeably John Woo inspired action set pieces and every performance is interesting or charismatic.
Simon Yam is always fun and Takamashi Sorimachi is great as the subtle professional killer O. The narrative and tone jumps around a lot and Kelly Lin's character is developed in such a way that her actions feel more confusing or thoughtless until information is revealed much later.
If fun is the aim Full Time Killer is the right stop.
