Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Ben C — 15 Jul 2013
This is my all time favorite war movie. I was amazed when I found out R Lee Erney's entire dialogue was improvised. And this movie just seems genuinely realistic, as if this is what was the norm at basic training camps.
It does a good job at executing a lot of hilarious insults from Erney (mostly towards Private Pyle) in the first 45 minutes of the film. And combine that with the rest of the movie which consists of a lot of brutal, realistic and gripping war scenes.
Just overall, a classic war movie and one of my favorite films.
