Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Lane Z — 09 Mar 2013
First time I've fully watched FMJ all the way through. Everyone by now should be familiar with the famous rifle scenes in the first half and the incredible acting from R. Lee Ermey, but I think the bond between the squad mates (or lack-there-of) brings to point the central theme of the movie.
It's very well crafted, but at times it does slow down to a snail's pace on lingering camera shots and trite dialogue, but that is also Kubrick's MO. War and its side effects. Harrowing.
