"Full Metal Jacket" is one of the better war movies out there for the fact that it isn't all that political. Throw in Kubrickian aesthetics, we get a Vietnam movie unlike any war movie before or after it.

This film stands out for it's more lunar landscape of Vietnam than the thing jungle, as well as spending a great amount of time dealing with the horrors of basic training and the brainwashing dealt there, which few films have done.

I think by making this an apolitical war film, if possible, it allows for us to be mature and decide for ourselves what the film means.
