Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Derek D — 26 Aug 2012
Only the boot camp portion was really interesting to me and I've found that most people are that way as well. It's not that Kubrick crafted a bad film; far from it. It's an excellent look into the sides of training to be a soldier and actually being a soldier in a war situation.
The movie is really good, but the lulls in it it drag the film down as a whole. Kubrick films aren't for everybody and it would be a full dozen years before we got anything else from him.
