Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Griffin B — 15 Jun 2013
Perhaps my favorite Kubrick film. It affects me on a deeply personal and emotional level and conveys something a little different to me each time I see it. All the performances are amazing, Vincent D'Onofrio's performance as Gomer Pyle deserves all the accolades, but perhaps my favorite is Adam Baldwin as Animal Mother.
His portrayal of a man who has turned himself into an animal - thereby making him invaluable in the Vietnam War but destined to be an empty, shell-shocked failure for the rest of his life - is so compelling and also heartbreaking that I can't praise it (or him) enough.
