Review of Full Metal Jacket (1987) by Cody C — 11 May 2016
I feel guilty to say this, especially to a film that's made by the master Kubrick, but this movie is a little overrated. First off I must say I really liked the 1st half of this with the boot camp scenes.
R. Lee Ermey is fantastic as Sgt. Hartman and he seriously acts like a hard-nosed drilled sergeant which really helps the performance. The boot camp scenes show the cruel toughness of solider training.
However, the psychology with Private Ryan wasn't talked about enough to truly see what he's going through. And one big thing the boot camp scenes could have done was flesh out characters but, it misses out so we barely know these characters and we can't feel symphony for them on what they're going through and that's when the movie goes downhill.
The fight scenes are fine but it was hard to give a darn because we barely give a darn about the characters. So I think this movie is alright. But many people have different opinions than I do, so check out this movie and see what you think of it.
