Two thumbs up! A great film of 2008 and another great piece on humanity, soul-searching and self-discovery.

A motion picture that will make you cry for the dark historical chapter, cheer for the survival and compassion and lift you up that out of the mishap there is always hope that breaks through the dark cloud.

I have to confess that I always have a crush for movies talking about the implications of the Holocaust and anything that is related to the suffering of Jewish people easily grabs my attention.

This movie is unique in that it didnt dwell on the inflictions of the Jewish in the concentration camp. Instead, it is about how the tragedy haunts the second-generation Jewish.

The little actor who plays the 9-year-old Jakobs is spectabular! I have to admit that someone is cut for big screen and this boy just has the package -- especially the vulnarable and fear-gripped eyes. I couldn't held back my tears but cry for his suffering, crying for the gripsly scene where he witnessed the murder of his beloved parents by the Nazi. And that was just the beginning. For years, nightmares are almost a daily company in his bed and for a while, he couldn't step out of the door and bask in the sunlight. Instead, he shut himself out and confined himself in the dark.

But luckily for him, love was all around. the Greek professor found him in the forest and hid him from the eyes of Nazi and brought him along to a new life in Canada. The compassion and co-dependence of the two are the gem of the movie. It shows you just how interaction plays in the lives of two people who help each other survive, heal from the past and provide hope for the future. Cheer for humanity!!!
