While there are dramatic deviations from the novel, this film captured the heart of "fugitive pieces" and powerfully defended the notion that love does not seek to change but to embrace and understand.
to quote woody allen's "crimes and misdemeanors," love contains in it the contradiction: the attempt to return to the past and the attempt to undo the past.
