Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by Jerky S — 15 Jan 2014
Michael B. Jordan deserves an Academy Award nomination for his brilliant portrayal of Oscar Grant in this well-made film. I'll assume anyone who would watch this knows what is coming, and the sense of impending dread is almost unbearable at times. Director Ryan Coogler makes you feel it -- not just because it was such a stupid act of racially motivated violence, but also because you have come to like Grant through the film. It's infuriating and stomach-turning to watch the final scene, and that's the message that needs to be delivered.
Grade: A.
