Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by Edwin P — 15 Feb 2014
The film chronicles the last day in the life of Oscar Grant III leading to that final encounter with BART police at the Fruitvale BART station in Oakland on New Year's Day 2009 when he was fatally shot.
Winning both the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance film Festival, the film will resonate with audiences due to its fact based dramatization of an emotionally charged event and for its social urgency.
Michael Jordan brings humanity to Oscar, a 22-year old father, who before this film, many only knew from actual footage taken by fellow train passengers on their phones at that BART station that tragic morning. With Octavia Spencer ("The Help") playing his mom.
