Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by Jeremy C — 10 Jun 2015
You shot me, bruh.
Oscar Grant III is an inner city kid trying to get a break. He has a girlfriend that has their daughter. He recently lost his job on what happens to be his mother's birthday. Also on this day he wants to take his daughter to see fireworks. His trip to the city is a twisted adventure that ends in tragedy.
"Get the fuck off, bruh.".
Ryan Coogler, director of movie Creed, delivers Fruitvale Station in his directorial debut. The storyline had several interesting elements but I felt it was fairly straightforward. The dialogue was annoying at times and the acting was a bit awkward. The cast includes Michael Jordan, Melonie Diaz, Kevin Durand, and Ariana Neal.
"It's all you, bruh.".
We were at a Memorial Day BBQ and this movie was recommended to us off Netflix. We randomly watched it the other night and I was slightly disappointed. There is definitely a sad, tragic story here, but I felt it was fairly straightforward and didn't too many new elements outside of the dialogue. It does deliver a tragic and twisted plot with some unique elements even if the story unfolds as you'd expect.
"Wassup, bruh.".
Grade: C+.
