The silent black tragedy is the suitable description of Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale. A shocked beginning follows by calm events, then burst at the last quarter to make us totally in tears.

"Oscar Grant" (Michael B. Jordan) the young black man who wanted to lead his own life after he was fired, and celebrate his mother's birthday with his girlfriend and daughter, ended his new years eve not with only the fireworks, but real fire.

It was clear that Coogler doesn't want to be involved in the dark stuff of Grant or his past, or maybe he doesn't want the movie to glide in documentation, so he concentrated on the environment usually created for melodramas in the last 24 hours of Oscar's life only, by the spontaneous performances of Michael B. Jordan and Melonie Diaz, and the twinkling black winning star Octavia Spencer. I guess no mother can watch Wanda and prevent herself from weeping, she is awesome. Another work looks great, is cinematography, that sounds real indeed.

I guess it is an amazing start of Ryan Coogler, to begin with one of the best movies of this year.
