Review of Fruitvale Station (2013) by Connor C — 04 Jun 2015
Fruitvale Station carries powerful messages and themes of redemption, hope, loss of innocence, tragedy and family. Michael B. Jordan's portrayal of real-life shooting victim Oscar Grant is down to earth and heavily grounded in the harsh reality of his world, down to the final horrible gunshot that took his life.
The most difficult thing possibly about Fruitvale Station is that you know what is coming, as you do with all based-on-tragedy-films and that you can't stop it, but with Fruitvale Station it seems to carry much more weight and heartbreak since we know we can't do anything and when we see the BART officer fire, it makes you wish all the more that you do it all differently.
