Review of Fruit Fly (2009) by Jeff H — 02 Jan 2010
The songs in this slice-of-life musical are great and very diverse, from the catchy pop tunes, to the funky dance beats, to the scream-along rock numbers, and even a few cabaret-inspired tracks with lyrics that made the whole audience laugh out loud.
The story feels so true to life at some parts that itâ??s almost hard to watch, but after seeing so many coincidence-driven Hollywood movies with their too-perfect endings, it's quite refreshing to see a film like this which takes the more honest approach.
That being said, the pacing does slow down to a crawl a couple times, and the numerous secondary characters are underdeveloped. But the protagonist is likable enough to make up for it, with her struggles and weaknesses being easy to relate to, and her journey is overall very entertaining to watch.
