Review of Frozen River (2008) by Scott P — 27 Feb 2009
Frozen River is the kind of film that filmmakers would dig into. The screenplay is excellent. Its so good I'm taking notes from this. Frozen River immediately plants seeds within the first couple of minutes.
Melissa Leo is transparent. She feels so authentic that you could say she's completely underacting the role. She still deserves the Oscar nomination. There's moments where other actors are not as real, but don't seem to be as convincing. That's my only argument.
Great cinematography and excellent direction by Courtney Hunt. I was really into Frozen River. I was not expecting where it would take me or how the film would end. I was emotionally invested with the characters. Its about time a great movie about strong female leads came into focus! A great film! Its already on my must buy and analyze list!
