Review of Frozen River (2008) by Sharon W — 07 Jun 2009

This was a pretty good movie but I'm not sure why Melissa Leo was nominated for an Academy Award. Not to say that I don't think she's a good actress, but I didn't see anything particularly special about this role.

The story was really good and well executed although it did drag a little in parts. It was nice that the makers didn't decide to do the obvious with some of the situations, like the Pakastani baby or the attempt to thaw the frozen pipes, but it was disappointing that the ending was a little cliche where the one last mission goes wrong.

Overall this was a pretty good movie and while Leo may not be Oscar worthy, this movie is proof that she should be working a whole lot more.
