Review of Frozen River (2008) by Dan B — 27 Sep 2010
Beautifully crafted blend of thriller and social realism (a bit like John Sayles, but without the overt politicking). Leo and Upham are superb in the leads, but there is excellent support throughout (particularly from Charlie McDermott, who Iâ??m sure weâ??ll see again soon.
). And while the setting is a deliberately marginal, it never feels gimmicky or inauthentic. Taut, gripping and deserving of as wide an audience as it can get.
