Review of Frozen River (2008) by Peter R — 30 Sep 2010
The barren and frozen landscape of the Canada and US border run parallel with the harsh and empty life of our protagonist. Left by her no-good husband to look after her children with no money, no food, a part time job and a tin house, the sense of struggle is overwhelming.
It's also so well acted and realistic that the extreme decisions taken by the characters seem the only available options to them. It's not all grim though as the harder the struggle, the more intense the brief moments of happiness seem.
