Review of Frozen River (1929) by Jacob R — 02 Mar 2009
A fine performance by Melissa Leo makes Frozen River stand-out from other films in the 'desperate poor people commit crimes' indie-film sub-genre. The cast as a whole is really good and over the course of its short run-time it manages to build a fair amount of suspense and dread.
Unfortunately I felt a few false notes (the Christmas night series of events stands out in my mind) that keep it from being a great film.
