Totally depressing... but at least there is a sweet sort of ending. :).
With so much focus on the smuggling of immigrants across the Mexican border, I don't think I really realized that the same issue exists on the Canadian border. I certainly didn't know about a possible path through Mohawk reservation lands. People facing hard times simply make very hard choices.
