Review of Frozen (2013) by Amber S — 14 Mar 2015
Everyone just loves Disney's Frozen. "Oh look at Olaf isn't he cute?" they say. Let It Go echoes the hallways of our school and I just want to gag. I wasn't very interested in even watching it but thought you know what I'll check it out just to see what all the hype is about. Oddly enough I typically am a huge Disney fan and was still flying high from my love of Tangled. Maybe that's why when I watched this film I was taken back by the astonishing mountain of disappointment I felt within the first five minutes of the movie. The songs. Oh the songs. They weren't songs with a purpose. They sang about EVERYTHING. Also the visual effects and artwork were very weak and lackluster compared to the moving visual dramatics of Tangled.
My main issue with Frozen is this: Elsa can't control her powers one second and builds an elaborate giant ice palace the next. Really? Ok so it's not realistic fiction and that's ok... But seriously? The ice castle building scene has no logical progression proceeding it to indicate she has the ability to control her powers in that manner.
Olaf. He wasn't even funny or cute. I was watching Olaf and praying for sunshine the entire time.
Even though I detested the movie, it does warm my heart to see all the little girls singing the songs and know that while I didn't care for it... Unfortunately Elsa is their Little Mermaid.
