Review of Frozen (2013) by Jenna L — 15 May 2015
I can see how people find this movie cute, but I'm am very sorry to say that I believe that Frozen isn't a film worthy of its popularity. There isn't too much character development (Especially with Kristoff), Olaf is just there for giggles, the trolls are strange, and the plot is almost tacky.
Our characters are cliched. Anna is that quirk that doesn't fit in and Elsa is that misunderstood loner who doesn't fit in, we get it. Additionally, if you want to do a girl power movie, don't have your female protagonist a whiny, distraught queen for more than half of the running time.
I would have loved to have seen more of the courage Elsa has gained from finally "letting go" of her powers, but she seems to return to her frantic and nervous state soon after. However, I will say that I like the soundtrack, and how they took on more of a real "musical" type genre rather than another collage of pop based songs.
Frozen is just one of those movies that are proclaimed to be a home run, but critically is just a foul ball.
