Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Marc-Alexander T — 05 Mar 2010
Once again Ron Howard has proven how adept he is at delving into personal feelings and motivations in this down-tone look at the Nixon interviews of David Frost in the post-Watergate years. The acting is brilliant - intense without crossing over into wannabe polit-thriller megadrama - Langella's protrayal of Nixon almost hauntingly accurate.
Not surprising, since Howard is, after all, none for his mastery of nuance as far as characters go, and this skill is taken to wonderful heights here. Not a picture for friends of polit-thrillers a la Hunt for Red October, this is more a film for those who like to watch intellectual struggles unfold in subtle yet still mesmerizing waves.
