Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Rock F — 30 May 2010
Most recent friend review 365 days ago, I'm a wee bit behind the times but I'm trying very hard to catch up on everything great I've missed while concentrating on uni work. Expect a review shortly for a new comic book film called Dark Knights or something.
Anyhoo, I put this on at midnight and don't think anything without explosions, love interests, comedy has ever kept me so awake before. Of course, everyone knows the story and knows the implications, so I won't bang on about that. The execution of the story, however, is perfect in every way. I didn't think Langella resembled Nixon in any way, but he embodies him, same with Sheen. The two leads are on career-best form here (last week I saw The Damned United for the first time - where the hell did Michael Sheen come from), but apart from the pointless inclusion of Rebecca Hall, everyone in the cast is engaging and intriguing. Below the surface I would like to see what makes Bacon, Rockwell and Platt's characters tick, they move so seamlessly and integrally through the film.
If I had seen this when I first wanted to I would have been impressed, but I think the wait may have allowed me to appreciate it that little bit more, sans hype. Excellent, but did he ever wear those shoes?
