Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Kwong C — 15 Jun 2010
A powerful, complex and epic political drama.
Frost/Nixon, directed by Academy Award winning director Ron Howard, is about the interview done to President Richard Nixon by David Frost, a British talk show host, about watergate after the president resigned from the presidential desk. The film slowly progresses from a normal interview to a battle between the president and the interviewer.
The film was majestic. One of the best of 2008.
The film is very powerful.
It was based upon the play by Peter Morgan, who also wrote the screenplay to this film. Morgan did an amazing job here. I haven't seen the play, but the film has an excellent script. The film was also sharp edited. Featuring opinions of the characters and often seen as an actual interview, you get the feeling that this is a documentary about the interviews. The performances were outstanding. Though Sam Rockwell, Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt delivered great performances, the ones who shine the most are the two leads: Michael Sheen playing David Frost and Frank Langella playing President Richard Nixon. Both of them become the character in the movie. But the greatest of this film is Ron Howard's meticulous direction. As I said before, the film has the feeling of a documentary. Howard did an amazing job here.
Powerful and strong, Frost/Nixon is an epic poem that is one of the year's finests.
