Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Amy P — 10 Sep 2010
I vaguely remember Watergate from my childhood and was interested in this piece more out of a sense of completeness more than overt interest. My expectations were that this was going to be either heavy handed liberalism or hanging to tightly to the actual events that it would forget to be entertaining, I was pleasantly surprised.
Beyond the obvious conflict of Frost trying to draw the truth out of Nixon the more enlightening subplot is of the point in American journalism when news for profit reared it ugly head. My favorite characters are San Rockwell and Oliver Platt portraying Frost?s makeshift investigation team.
Rockwell plays James Reston Jr. a academic with a singular focus to expose Nixon in front of the world for what he was. Oliver Platt plays Bob Zelnik a entertaining politico who?s career is floundering.
Ron?s focus interplay between the characters and their various aspirations keeps the story moving. After A Beautiful Mind and The Missing I thought Ron Howard?s career went into treading water with the Da Vinci stuff, however the lights may still be on.
