Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Don M — 15 Feb 2011
The Frost/Nixon interviews, representing a historic collision of politics and media, provide a unique window into the Watergate story. Frank Langella gives us Nixon as the Lion in Winter -- ruthless but sentimental, charmless but funny, desperate for vindication, but ultimately capitulating to his accusers in exhausted defeat -- Nixon as seen by unforgiving but slightly indulgent Democrats.
Michael Sheen is great as Frost, the out-of-his-depth playboy who nevertheless brings the president to his knees, earning his respect in the process. In a way, it was THE KING'S SPEECH of 2008, an unlikely bromance amidst the political events of the day.
