Review of Frost/Nixon (2008) by Robert D — 12 Jun 2012
Ron Howard is one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. Frost/Nixon is a prime example why. The script isn't very tight. It reads like a stage play (which the movie is actually based on), which can be disaster on film.
But Ron Howard's understanding of the source material transformed this into a cinematic masterpiece. Frank Langella, who is always on top of his game, gives one of the best performances of his life as Richard Nixon.
The mannerisms, the facial expressions, right down to the diction of his voice completely sold me. Michael Sheen is nothing short of brilliant. In fact, I will be startled if this man does not become a common household name in the next few years.
He is very talented, and his dramatic foil off of Langella's Nixon is just incredible. Add a little Kevin Bacon and Sam Rockwell to the mix, and you have yourself on outstanding cast, who, under Howards' direction, catapult Frost/Nixon into the stratosphere.
An excellent film that is 100% recommended.
