Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Kris K — 08 Apr 2008
Xavier Gens is part of the new wave of French genre directors. Just too bad his film feels like a retread of other horror films. Not nearly as intense as it would have been had it come out perhaps 2 to 3 years earlier.
It feels borrowed and old. Not really scary. Certainly gory but that only carries a film so far. Still, I have faith in his direction. If only he would stay away from the Hollow-wood machine. Likely his getting screwed over with Hitman has put a sour taste in his mouth and he'll stay in France and hone his craft.
Disappointing.
