Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Gary T — 21 Jul 2008
Yes, there's buckets of blood aplenty but where this impressive French effort fails is in its characterisation. Whilst their plights and deaths are unpleasant, the fact they are essentially underdeveloped thieves never really allows you to root for their escape.
The Nazi father figure is creepily played, as is the (cliched) TCM-like family. However despite all the gore, the most tense sequence is the most simple (a too-small tunnel, no light and an unexpected exit).
