Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Nina G — 27 Dec 2008
I've seen lots of gore movies cuz I'm a big fan of that kind of horror genre, but I hardly remember something so cruel, brutal & anti-human, so dirty & extreme, so before watching this and to avoid fainting, keep repeating "it's only a movie, it's only a movie....".
It starts like a cheap thriller that doesn't thrill at all and it takes a a while to get to the gory part, but BLOODY does not even begin to define this movie; INSANE would be more appropriate.
There's something about the French horror movies that keep me up at night; they already delivered a couple of ultimately brutal movies - Haute tension and A l'interieur are one of my favorite movies ever, so yeah, I'm a fan of French horror :P.
This one has it all - a cool & unique story, it's highly violent & very well written, it's shocking & explicit, with great make-up effects & SFXs.
You need nerves of steel and a good stomach to watch this, or you'll be turning your head away from the screen most of the time. I won't go into details, because I don't want to spoil it too much; but were all the excruciating killings and the massacre vile, revolting and totally unnecessary? Sure, but to us gore freaks, that's definitely fascinating to behold :) Yeah you won't really see anything you haven't seen in other gorey movies before, but if you enjoyed movies like Saw, Hostel, House of 1000 Corpses, The Hills Have Eyes & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (& FUCK YEAH I DID!), you don't wanna miss this one... and plese remind me never to visit the backwoods of Europe! ;).
