Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Brendan R — 03 May 2009
Frontiers is surprisingly well done and extremely violent for a film from the same guy who directed the aweful film Hitman. I can see why this movie wasnt allowed to be in theaters. The gore and violence is very realistic and makes Saw and Hostel look like Winnie the Poo.
For a horror movie it wasnt scary, it was horrific. This french new wave of horror movies is proving to be where "real" horror is being made. The story is alittle lacking and unclear but once the horror sets in the movie never really stops to let you catch your breath.
The movie looks great, the acting is pretty good, and the violence is how movie violence should be done to the point of pure repulsion. Their are echos of films like Hostel, Last House on the Left and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and its a familiar horror movie plot.
But this movie has something over most horror films thesae days, this movie has a brain and it has the violence, not to mention the connection to Nazis. its nice to have both things in a horror movie these days.
Horror movie fans will be pleased, I cant see how they wont be, but non horror fans may be turned off by the gore. awesome movie, effective and worth your time.
