Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Daniel C — 12 Oct 2011
An interesting film, bordering on the edge of ridiculousness, that delves into the bizarre lives of a family much like the ones featured in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Such films are a dime-a-dozen, the misplaced group of people going to places where they shouldn't go, discovering how deep the evil human psyche can plunge, the Hills Have Eyes, Breakdown, Wrong-Turn, The Vanishing, No Vacancy, the list goes on.
What sets this apart from the rest is its modern spin with an updated time frame and its take on the gentrification problem in Paris. It seems to be a strong theme from the more aggressive films from France with its relevance potruding into other developed societies.
Thankfully it doesn't take it self seriously, and can cause an audience to wince in unison.
