Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Our L — 20 Apr 2012
I don't know what's wrong with me that I found this NC-17 version of a supposedly intense and graphic movie quite boring and irritating. The moments of gore/brutality were indeed intense, and some of it was right up there with "Saw" and "Hostel", but the overall pacing was incredibly slow and left me time to get really bothered by two of the main characters and their horrible acting.
One male was so whiny, and we were forced to watch him in this state for so long, that I was happy to see him die just so he'd shut up. The actress playing the main female role felt it necessary to spend the entire moving rocking back and forth or shaking to convey her sense of intense fear.
And frankly, I'm tired of torture porn that thinks it's creepy because the main character talks really slowly. I'm not watching an NC-17 movie that's known for it's gore because I expect great dialogue.
Make it snappy, and get to the blood.
