Review of Front Cover (2016) by Judy L — 05 Sep 2016
An very moving, realistic, specific, and compassionate portrait of a modern Asian/Asian American gay relationship and its consequences. While it takes a bit for the writing and editing to relax out of some their initially stilted rhythms, the performances are strong from the start (especially James Chen), and all the elements - writing, directing, acting, editing - acquire more surety, subtlety, depth, and grace as the film progresses.
Some very moving surprises, and whether you identify as gay, Asian, Asian American or not, there is plenty of humanity in which to see yourself reflected.
