Review of From Within (2008) by Joel C — 01 Apr 2009
From Within is an interesting chiller revolving around a small, VERY religious community of of your standard god-fearing, hypocritical morons who think that anyone that is slightly different is the work of the devil.
Well, things start going bad for these narrow-minded people as their God disappears when a strange curse starts jumping around from person to person (think the Denzel Washington movie Fallen) and starts causing these people to see themselves in ghostly form and committing suicide.
This all starts with the suicide of a boy everyone believes to be a witch, so naturally, then want to kill the rest of his family, which stirs up trouble for one member (Ted Dekker) and the lead girl (Elizabeth Rice) who sympathizes with him.
From Within wound up being a much better film than I thought it was going to be. Mediocre to decent acting, average kills and effects, and decent but sometimes predictable story, though I will say that the climax is good and the following credits had me in sinister stitches.
There's nothing too terribly special about the film, but it's a good watch. Not bad.
