Review of From Russia with Love (1963) by Raji K — 10 Jan 2014
James Bond is back in From Russia with Love. From Russia with Love really picks up the pace and opens up the bond universe in many ways. We have a wide array of villains introduced from the criminal organization SPECTRE, and to counter it Bond is equipped with many gadgets from Decoders to exploding cases and the infamous watch. Despite the increase in villains unfortunately From Russia with Love is probably the weakest Connery Bond film as in it just runs way too slow. The sequence in the train seems to last forever and its such a large part of the film.
Bond Girl - 3/5.
Tania as a girl spy seems at times a bit too naive, but she keeps the film moving.
Gadgets - 3/5.
This film really opens up with the gadgets. The anticipation of the exploding case was well done.
Villains - 4/5.
We really get a good introduction to SPECTRE in this movie. Klebb is ruthless and her poison tipped shoes are quite memorable. Blofeld is shown as the mastermind who shows no mercy for killing other members of the organization for being unable to predict the element of James Bond.
Music 2/5.
Not one of the most memorable Bond songs.
